Democrats have learned the art of appealing to people's natural inclination towards envy, greed, and grievance. It's a powerful tool to generate votes.
“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.”
― Alexis de Tocqueville
“Democracy extends the sphere of individual freedom, socialism restricts it. Democracy attaches all possible value to each man; socialism makes each man a mere agent, a mere number. Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word: equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.”
Great post. As it appears that November food stamps won’t drop the people in my neighborhood are freaking out. Someone posted on the neighborhood website group that they would give away food and wrote, “If the government won’t feed my neighbors, I will!” Isn’t it funny that they are outraged that the government isn’t doing what individuals, families and communities should be doing, and so now they decide to help their neighbors? I wonder how many of the people on SNAP really need it. Will we see an epidemic of weight loss as they starve ? Doubt it.
TY. Not just "should" be doing, but "used" to do before the welfare state. On a separate but related note, I saw a meme that said something like "The same people who were anti-government are now complaining that the gov might not send their food stamps.
And the globalists want more 15 minute cities to herd us all into a paranoid hellscape. Great work and I agree with your premise. Fear is the greatest motivator and the handiest tool in the political toolbox. How come the republicans can’t mount some kind of counter movement in these cities? Have the dems cornered the market for free stuff??
I know, Dumb question. NYC is about to descend one more ring into the circle of hell.
Great article, Arnell. Very clearly stated thesis, with ample support for your arguments. New York City is about to pull the “flush” chain and go completely down the tubes, electing a Socialist who embodies all of the warnings you outline here. Thanks for writing!
Thanks, Steve. And I unfortunately think you're right about NYC. It makes me wonder, exactly how fucking stupid does someone have to be not to see that this clown is a snake oil salesman?
Great post and lots to think about. Having worked for the government for almost 30 years, I can assure you that your assessment is spot on. The agency I work for has expanded 500% since I started. They are everywhere. Fake metrics. Lots of people that do nothing at all. So what do they do, hire more people to do nothing. I really hope this stack starts booming, you are really good.
